Material

Technical plastics: precisely machined

Technical plastics are light, chemical-resistant, and electrically insulating — and for many applications the more economical alternative to metal. Through our qualified manufacturing network we procure milled and turned plastic parts in all common materials.

Plastics machining: the right partner, the complete process

Plastics require adapted machining strategies — thermal expansion, stress relief, and tool guidance play a bigger role than with metal.

Through our network we specifically select partners experienced in the respective material.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which technical plastics can be machined?

Regularly machined are POM, PA, PE, PET, PC, PMMA, PEEK, PTFE, and PVC — both as standard plastics and in glass-fibre reinforced, food-grade, or especially temperature- and chemical-resistant variants.

When is plastic the better choice than metal?

Plastic offers advantages in weight, electrical insulation, chemical resistance, sliding properties, and cost. For parts without high mechanical or thermal limit loads, it's often the more economical and functionally better choice.

What's special about PEEK and PTFE?

PEEK is a high-performance plastic with high temperature, chemical, and mechanical resistance — ideal for demanding applications. PTFE is extremely chemical-resistant with very low friction, ideal for seals, plain bearings, and insulators.

Are plastics harder to machine than metal?

Different, not necessarily harder. Plastics expand more with temperature, can warp if machined incorrectly, and require adapted tooling and cutting parameters. Experience in the specific material is decisive — which is why we specifically select suitable partners.

What does machining plastic parts cost?

Cost depends on material, geometry, tolerances, and quantity. High-performance plastics like PEEK are significantly more expensive than standard plastics. Through GP-Digit, based on your drawing, you'll typically receive a binding quote within 24 hours.

Do you manufacture in-house or through partners?

We orchestrate a network of carefully selected, highly specialized manufacturing partners in Germany and internationally. As your central procurement partner, we accompany the entire process from consulting to on-time delivery.
